This is a very rare sniper smock issued to snipers and others in the East German Army (NVA), which existed in the German Democratic Republic, commonly known as "East Germany", which was created during the Cold War after the end of WWII. It has a design common to anoraks and sniper smocks of the WWII German era, but with modifications unique to the East German Army. The hood has fittings to secure it to a helmet and contains a net that is effective as a sniper veil or mosquito net. Because of its floral camouflage, it has various common names, such as Blue Men or Kartoffelmuster (potato camouflage). The correct name is Flächentarn (regional camouflage), but it is widely referred to as Blumentern.
This is a used item that has just a hint of fading overall. There are no missing accessories, but the bottom three front buttons have been reattached. Since WWII, German cotton work clothes have been fitted with an O- or S-shaped ring on the back so that the buttons can be removed when washing. This is a relatively early garment, so it is thought to have been attached in the same way. No anti-gas treatment is applied, and the camouflage is printed on a relatively light gray ground dye. Very characteristically beautifully finished. After repairs and stickers have been removed, it is still in wearable condition, although it has some scuffs and scratches. A very rare gem. The stamp inside indicates that it was made in 1960.
This is a used item and cannot be returned. Please understand.
