Among the jungle fatigues from the Vietnam War era, this custom-modified U.S. Air Force jacket—actually worn in service—stands out with a particularly striking presence. This is a 3rd Model jungle fatigue jacket from the 1967 contract. Furthermore, the sleeves were altered to short sleeves by the original wearer, making it a piece with exceptional character.

Its greatest appeal lies not merely in the fact that it has been altered to short sleeves, but that the “WARREN” name tape on the chest, the “U.S. AIR FORCE” tape, and even the Captain’s rank insignia on the collar remain exactly as they were in the original.

Unlike restored pieces where patches are added later to create a vintage look, this jacket was actually worn by a single Air Force officer and modified as needed by him. This “complete look as personal gear” is its greatest appeal.

The 3rd Model belongs to a generation that used cotton poplin fabric rather than the ripstop fabric that became standard in the later 4th Model. As the Vietnam War intensified in the late 1960s, this jungle fatigues jacket represents that transitional period.

This is a custom-modified short-sleeve jacket. Rather than wearing issued gear exactly as prescribed, soldiers modified their equipment in the field to suit hot climates, mission requirements, and personal preferences. These practical modifications are one of the elements that make Vietnam War-era field wear so fascinating. Unlike the fashion-oriented remakes of later years, the “customization for practical use” remains intact.Since the Air Force’s mission does not involve ground combat, modifications like these are frequently observed.

Furthermore, it comes in the rare MEDIUM-LONG size.

The garment shows overall fading from wear and washing, with the characteristic variations in color intensity—particularly around the chest pocket and patches—that are unique to authentic pieces. Despite this, the overall condition of the body is good, allowing you to fully appreciate the original patches and custom details.

If you’re just looking for a standard jungle fatigues jacket, there are still plenty of options available.

However, it’s a different story when a single garment combines all these elements: a 3rd Model from the 1967 contract, USAF, period-correct patches, a Captain’s rank insignia, the MEDIUM-LONG size, and a period-style short-sleeve customization.

What was once a uniform item issued to a single soldier—worn and modified by him—has been transformed into a truly one-of-a-kind piece. This is an exceptionally appealing USAF jungle fatigue that I highly recommend to those who want to appreciate military wear not just as “clothing,” but also as a testament to the traces left by its original wearer.

Signs of wear from actual use and overall fading are visible. The sleeves have been custom-modified to short sleeves by the original wearer.

The patches—including the “WARREN” and “U.S. AIR FORCE” tapes on the chest and the rank insignia on the collar—are all original and have been attached since the time of use. It is in a condition that is highly appealing as vintage military gear.

Please note that since this is a used item, returns are not accepted.
